ViralHog is a popular Youtube channel with over four million subscribers. They recently posted a video of a few people on a walk when they come across what appears to be a rattlesnake. The shocking video has over 500,000 likes at the time of writing this. Rattlesnakes may be found in a wide variety of environments all over the United States, Mexico, and South America because they are able to adapt to survive in arid sand dunes, moist swamplands, and verdant meadows. Nowadays, there are more than 30 identified species of rattlesnakes, and two of them are threatened by habitat loss and killing. In the popular video, a car slowly drives passed as a woman with a cigarette in one hand circles around the snake. She appears to be thinking about how to get the snake out of the road without being bitten. Rattlesnakes are venomous and if bitten, you should seek medical attention immediately. While they’re dangerous, a bite from one of these slithery creatures is rarely fatal. The venom is known to damage tissue and cause harm to the circulatory system. This includes destroying skin tissue, and blood cells and eventually causing internal hemorrhaging. In one swoop the woman puts the cigarette in her mouth and grabs the snake around the neck before picking up the rest of its body. The woman expertly removes the huge snake and then calmly places it in a green pasture behind a wire fence on the side of the street. Rattlesnakes are known to strike when they’re intimidated or feel threatened. Humans can feel very threatened by these snakes. If you ever come across one, back away slowly and avoid getting too close to the snake. The comments on the video are great. One of the viewers quotes Sun Tzu from the Art of Fear by saying, “Behind every fearless woman, there is a man who watches and prays for her in the back .” It’s safe to say this is one brave woman and we’re glad everyone, including the snake, ended up okay.
